About library

Birzai district municipality Jurgis Bielinis public library is non-profit organization,  established  in 1930, opened as a branch of the Central State Book Store. Our Public library provides various cultural, information and educational services for all Public library visitors.

December 21, 2010 the Public library was named after the famous prominent figures in the national movement – Book Smugglering – figure during the 40-year ban on printing in Latin characters Jurgis Bielinis. He created a secret distribution network in order to smuggle banned books.

About Jonas Mekas and Adolfas Mekas Heritage Study Centre

Jonas Mekas and Adolfas Mekas Heritage Study Centre was founded in 2020 as a branch of the Birzai district municipality Jurgis Bielinis public library.

Mision

To cherish the memory of Jonas and Adolfas Mekas and to spread information about their legacy, creation and life in various forms of expression. 

Vision 

Open leisure space, representing Birzai and active in the scientific and cultural bar, focused on various fields of art and connecting Lithuanian and foreign artists. 

Objective 

The center is a part of the library open to the public, increasing the range of library services, creating the added value of the library and expanding the concept of a traditional library.
